New Partnership: hepster Expands Its Offering with HDI Embedded

Rostock/Hannover/Warsaw, 24.03.2025 – InsurTech company, hepster, has announced a strategic partnership with HDI Embedded, a provider of embedded insurance solutions in Europe to enable hepster to diversify its product portfolio and upgrade its pet insurance offerings. Following hepster's successful implementation of new dog insurance policies, HDI Embedded will be providing additional pet Insurance products set to launch in April 2025.

"We are very excited about our partnership with HDI Embedded. This collaboration is a significant step in driving our European expansion and scaling while continuing to offer our customers innovative, tailor-made insurance products," says Alexander Hornung, CPO and Co-Founder of hepster.
Pet Insurance: A Growing Market with Potential
As part of the partnership launch, hepster and HDI Embedded, are upgrading their pet insurance offerings. By the end of 2024, hepster had already adjusted coverage and pricing for its pet health and surgery insurance plans.
In 2023, approximately 34.3 million pets lived in Germany, including 15.7 million cats and 10.5 million dogs[1]. However, only about 43% of pet owners in Germany have relevant pet insurance. Among them, 85% of horse owners and 74% of dog owners have liability insurance. There is significant growth potential in the pet health and surgery insurance market. Around 33% of cat owners and 32% of dog owners plan to take out pet health insurance, while 34% of dog owners and 32% of cat owners are considering surgery insurance[2].
As pets become increasingly important family members, veterinary costs are also rising. In November 2022, Germany’s veterinary fee schedule (GOT) was updated, increasing treatment costs[3]. Consequently, the demand for comprehensive and flexible insurance solutions is growing. By leveraging modern technology and data analytics, pet insurance can now be personalized and cost-effective, catering to the specific needs of pet owners.
"Our collaboration with hepster underscores our strong commitment to innovative insurance models. Pet insurance is a high-potential market, and we are proud to support hepster as a strategic partner," says Gregor Mandt, Chief Partnership Officer Germany at HDI Embedded.
Looking Ahead: Expansion and Internationalization
The partnership between hepster and HDI Embedded aims not only to serve the German and the Austrian market, but also to expand into other European markets in the future. Both companies plan to grow their international presence and scale additional insurance products over the long term.
"Our goal is to explore new markets together with HDI Embedded and establish our innovative insurance model across Europe. We see great opportunities in internationalization and look forward to the next steps," says Alexander Hornung.
"This partnership is built on a shared vision and outstanding teamwork. The success we’ve achieved together with Alexander Hornung and his team gives us great confidence in what comes next. We’re excited to continue expanding our reach and redefining insurance across Europe!" says Gregor Mandt.
With this partnership, hepster and HDI Embedded are pioneering new trends in the digital insurance industry and laying the foundation for future product developments, growth and innovation across multiple lines of business.
